The Robert Loh Associate Professorship in Ophthalmology

The Robert Loh Associate Professorship in Ophthalmology has been conferred on Associate Professor Audrey Chia, Vice-Chair, Faculty and Professional Development, EYE ACP. She is concurrently Head and Senior Consultant of the Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus Department, SNEC and the Ophthalmology Service at KKH as well as Co-Clinical Director of the Myopia Centre, SNEC.

Associate Professor Chia received her ophthalmology training with the Sydney Eye Hospital, and underwent a paediatric ophthalmology fellowship at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. She completed
a Master Business Administration (MBA) with the University of Southern Queensland, and her PhD with the National University of Singapore.

Associate Professor Chia joined the core faculty in the then-new Ophthalmology residency program in 2011, and served as Programme Director from 2014 to 2017. She was part of the team that developed the Visual Electrophysiology Unit at SNEC and successfully hosted the 54th International Society Clinical Electrophysiology Vision (ISCEV) meeting in Singapore in 2016.

To date, she has published 56 refereed articles, and a total of five books and book chapters. She has presented at more than 30 conferences and scientific meetings. She is also currently a reviewer for several refereed ophthalmology journals.

She is best known for her myopia research and her work on the Atropine Treatment of Myopia (ATOM1 and ATOM2) studies, which has markedly changed how myopia is treated around the world. She is currently PI of the ATOM3 study (funded by NMRC) which has been awarded a grant funding of $1.9 million. In 2019, she was successful in obtaining an A*STAR IAF grant which was co-funded by Johnson and Johnson Vision to drive myopia research at SERI over the next three years.

Associate Professor Chia is also part of the SERI myopia team which received the President’s Science and Technology Award in 2019 for their three decades of dedicated research in the field of myopia. The conferment of this Faculty Professorship is an endorsement of Associate Professor Chia’s academic pursuits and potential as one of the brightest minds in the field in providing thought leadership and advanced medical research.
