Issue 1/2022

Welcome to another edition of EyeSight! In this publication, we have revamped the way we present our content for readers to provide for a comfortable read, as well as to incorporate multimedia into this e-magazine platform. We hope you will enjoy the experience, and please feel free to feedback through our channels to help us improve.

In our clinical section, we have an interesting interview with our neuro-ophthalmologists discussing how Multiple Sclerosis is no longer the common cause of optic neuritis in our local population – read on to see what other diseases have taken its place. Read how our innovative nursing department has created an operating theatre game-based training programme to facilitate orientation of new staff. We also look into the experience our centre had with the Asian Nursing Scholars Programme during these eventful COVID-19 years.

In research, we have a slightly novel format of having our SERI researchers (Dr Ryan Man and Dr Raymond Najjar) discuss findings from their work. In this issue, we will learn about the relationship of vision loss with employment opportunities, as well as factors in visual recovery of form-deprivation myopia in chicks – with our Professors Ecosse Lamoureux and Saw Seang Mei from SERI giving their views on these topics.

In our education segment, we have decided to put our new Heads of Training and Education, and Ophthalmology Residency, Clin Assoc Prof Anshu Arundhati and Assoc Prof Shamira Perera, under the spotlight to see what plans they have for educating the next generation. See what they have to say regarding needing to adapt to new challenges and how SNEC manages to stay ahead of the curve.

We hope that you have a fruitful journey through our articles and videos - we have certainly relished putting this together for all our readers.

Assoc Prof Audrey Chia (Editor-in-Chief)
Dr Loh Kai Lyn (Co-Editor-in-Chief)
