Dr Chong is a Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (YLLSOM-NUS), with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2008, and subsequently trained under the ACGME-I (American Council of Graduate Medical Education – International) accredited SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Program. 
During his training, Dr Chong completed his Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (Edinburgh) Part 1 and 2 exams, and Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology, whilst receiving multiple awards, including the SingHealth Outstanding Resident in Ophthalmology award thrice in 2013, 2014 and 2017 respectively. He was also awarded the Gold Medal in Paediatric Ophthalmology in the Joint Committee in Specialist Training (Singapore) Exit Examination 2017. 
Aside from clinical work, Dr Chong is also actively involved in education and training of undergraduates, residents and allied health professionals. He was conferred the Junior Doctor teaching award from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2016, appointed Clinical Lecturer in the NUS Clinical Faculty Scheme, and conducts Graduate Diploma courses for ophthalmic nurses as well. 
He has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals to his credit, and has co-authored international Ophthalmology reference texts. His research work has been presented at both local and international scientific conferences. 
Dr Chong's current clinical practice includes general, cataract and comprehensive Ophthalmology, and he is presently pursuing further sub-specialisation in the field of cataract surgery.
