Profile

Dr Foo Li Lian is a Consultant with the Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre. 

She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor in Engineering (Chemical) (1st Class Honors) in 2008, received the Dean’s List and NUS Awards for Study Abroad (Exchange Awards) in 2006, and was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) by Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in 2012 and certified by Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) in 2013.

She embarked on Ophthalmology training subsequently and became a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologist in 2016. In 2017, she received her Masters of Medicine in Ophthalmology and Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine.

Dr Foo has published nine papers in renowned peer reviewed journals, delivered multiple presentations at international conferences and achieved accolades including Young Investigator Award (Clinical) at the Singapore General Hospital 19th Annual Scientific Meeting in 2011.

She also co-authored two highly successful ophthalmology examination guidebooks titled “Practical Guide to VIVA and OSCE in Ophthalmology Examinations” and “Fundamental OSCE Guide in Ophthalmology” in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

Empower with the vision to transform global technological landscape in healthcare, she pursues her interest in healthcare innovation by enrolling into the highly prestigious and selective MIT-Harvard Medical School Healthcare Innovation Bootcamp held in Boston 2019. She was among the seventy participants handpicked from more than two thousand applicants after rigorous rounds of interviews and selections. Out of the thirteen highly motivated teams at the bootcamp, her team emerged Runner-up in the elevator pitch on Demo Day. Moreover, she also completed the highly competitive Eureka-Singapore Monsoon School on Translational Medicine in 2018 to advance further in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation. 

She is currently the very first Myopia fellow of Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and in the whole of Singapore. She aims to find novel solutions and improve treatment options to curb the current Myopia endemic through innovations.

As an aspiring clinician-innovator, she aims to harness her skills and passion in developing new instruments and treatment options to improve clinical care, bridge gaps and conceptualize clinical innovations
