Profile

Dr Barathi heads the Ocular Translational Pre-Clinical Model Research Platform at the Singapore Eye Research Institute where she also holds the position of a Senior Research Scientist. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology, National University of Singapore and National University Hospital and Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. Dr Barathi is a Vet & molecular biologist with research focused on understanding the molecular mechanism of myopia, ocular surface, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Her research has led to the translational and pre-clinical testing of ocular diseases using specific animal models. Dr Barathi has published more than 65 peer-reviewed papers.

Dr. Barathi has vast experience in lab animals and her specialization encompasses non-human primates, rabbits, mice, rats, pigs and chicken. She is currently collaborating with five international institutes and six inter-institutions. Dr Barathi regularly peer reviews at least four international journals, and regularly reviews SingHealth IACUC animal study protocols. She currently holds competitive research grants from National Medical Research Council (NMRC) and Biomedical Research Council (BMRC) and is the Chairman of Singhealth Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
