Issue 2/2023

Dear readers, welcome to the latest issue of EyeSight!

As usual, we will be looking at Singapore National Eye Centre’s (SNEC) current clinical, research and educational initiatives, alongside some features of our outstanding colleagues.

Senior Staff Nurse (SSN) Cynthia Wilson, Staff Nurse Claudia Goh and Staff Nurse Celine Tay give a peek into how clinical improvement projects are carried out here in SNEC to improve patient care. In their article, they describe how we try to reduce intraocular lens misplacement in the operating theatre.

In research, we feature two research articles: one, on how lipid-lowering drugs shows promise in treating diabetic corneal neuropathy by Assoc Prof Liu Yu-Chi, and the other, on non-fungible tokens and how they are used in the management of data, by Assoc Prof Daniel Ting and Dr Teo Zhen Ling. Please check out the links for the interview we had with these researchers for more insight.

In education, we cover the 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE conference hosted by the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) in partnership with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) to see how research can positively impact on lives and highlight the commitment of international bodies to do so. We also covered the recent SNEC Global Ophthalmology (GO) retreat, where Clin Assoc Prof Anna Tan, Dr Jasmine Ge and Dr Claire Peterson give us a brief overview and consolidation of the vision for our GO programme. We also feature Dr Fiona Lim and Dr Yap Zhu Li, who give their reflection on their learning journeys in the United Kingdom (UK) where they had their clinical fellowships.

One of the highlights of this issue is the article by Mr Kasi Sandhanam, whose team of ophthalmic imaging has won numerous awards internationally. Readers can view some of the amazing award-winning images from the team, including the Best in Show at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society meeting.

We hope that this issue of EyeSight will give our readers some food for thought, please enjoy!

Assoc Prof Audrey Chia (Editor-in-Chief)
Dr Loh Kai Lyn (Co-Editor-in-Chief)
