SINGHEALTH DUKE-NUS MEMORY AND COGNITIVE DISORDER CENTRE (SDDC) SCIENTIFIC MEETING 2021
The theme of the conference is “The Journey with Dementia - from ageing to disease, from home to hospital to community care”. Currently there is no cure for dementia, and this disease causes much sufferings for persons living with dementia, their caregivers and other family members living with them. Persons with dementia (PWDs) frequently get admitted to hospital for various medical problems and while they are warded, the care team faces many challenges taking care of them. Frequently, PWDs end up in institutions like nursing homes which are usually not the preferred choice for the PWDs nor their family. This long and difficult journey starts with diagnosing dementia and ends with a dignified end-of-life care. Medical management has its limitations and the focus of care should therefore include managing the family’s psycho-social needs.
