In 2024, he was awarded the prestigious Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) Award for further fellowship training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Jules Stein Eye Institute under Professor David Sarraf. This experience provided him with valuable expertise in multi-modal ocular imaging systems and exposure to retinal drug toxicities.

He has a clinical interest in cataract surgery and a research interest in retinal imaging, with multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals. He currently leads the PRISM (Prospective Retinal Imaging of Systemic Medications) study initiative and helms the newly established Retinal Toxicity Clinic at SNEC, aimed at advancing screening and management of systemic drug-induced retinal diseases. In 2025, Dr Chan was appointed Clinical Director of the Ocular Imaging Service at SNEC, where he oversees service development, workflow optimization, imaging innovation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. He also serves as the Deputy Program Director for Fellowships at SNEC, supporting training and mentorship of future ophthalmologists.

Beyond his clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Chan has taken on significant leadership and administrative roles. He served as Lead Resident (2020), Senior Lead Resident (2021), and was appointed Chief Resident of SNEC (2022). His contributions to residency training and clinical excellence have earned him multiple accolades.

Dr Chan has received numerous awards in recognition of his contributions to healthcare, research, and leadership. In 2024, he was honored with the Health Manpower Development Plan Award for his fellowship at UCLA and received both the 10 Years Long Service Award and the Silver Award at the Singapore Health Quality Service Awards from SingHealth. In 2023, he was awarded the COVID-19 Resilience Medal in recognition of his efforts during the pandemic. His dedication to patient care was also acknowledged with the Hero Award at the Singapore Health Quality Service Awards in 2021. He was recognized as an exceptional resident with the Outstanding Resident Award under the SingHealth Excels (RiSE) Awards in 2020. Earlier in his career, he won Best Poster (Junior Category) at the National Ophthalmology Research Day in 2015.
