Dr Samad Ansari is currently an Associate Consultant in the Department of Glaucoma at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He graduated from the University of Leeds in 2013 and completed his ophthalmology residency in the United Kingdom on the South London rotation, with clinical training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts. He subsequently completed specialist fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, undertaking an adult glaucoma fellowship followed by a second dedicated paediatric glaucoma fellowship.
Alongside his clinical practice, he is actively involved in research. He completed a three-year NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) at King’s College London (KCL) within the Department of Twin Research and Genetic Epidemiology, and an MSc at the Institute of Ophthalmology, UCL, London. His research interests include healthcare methodology, systematic reviews, clinical trials, and real-world data relating to glaucoma, ageing, and mitochondrial dysfunction. He has published extensively in these areas, including multiple book chapters, and has presented his work at local, national, and international meetings. His research has been recognised through numerous awards and competitive funding, including the inaugural Zakarian Award from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) and Fight for Sight (UK). He is currently working with the Ocular Imaging Research Group at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI).
