Your Clinic Visit

Welcome to Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). Please take a few minutes to read through this page and prepare for your visit to SNEC.

What to bring for my appointment?

• Singapore NRIC, Birth certificate (if you are under 15) or Passport and Employment Pass/Work Permit/Dependent Pass
• Civil Service Card/Public Service Card (for civil servants and their dependants only)
• Any other medical benefits eligibility cards/documents
• You may be asked to remove your contact lenses, hence we strongly encourage you to wear your glasses during your visit; otherwise, you can bring your contact lens case and your glasses
• Sunglasses – some patients find this useful after they have had eye drops
• Referral letter from your polyclinic/other healthcare institutions/private doctor (for first visit)
• Medication, if any (for first visit). If you run out of medication before your next appointment, please top up your medication through our Medication Delivery Service in Health Buddy
• Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. Do note that patients who are more than 30 minutes late will have their appointment rescheduled.
• For your first eye appointment to SNEC, the visit may take 3 to 4 hours as patients may need to do eye tests with pupil dilation that will cause blurred vision
• You are advised not to drive to SNEC on the day of your appointment – the tests you need may affect your vision, i.e., your vision may be blurred for a few hours. Please arrange for someone to accompany you or pick you up after your consultation
   

Routine Eye Assessment Clinic (REAC)

During your visit

1. Eye tests and photos

Our staff will do several detailed eye tests and take photos of your eyes.

2. Questions about your eye problem
We will ask you a few questions about your vision or eye problem.

3. Review of your results
Your test results and eye pictures will be immediately sent to a doctor for assessment, who will then decide if you need to be seen by another specialist.     

i. This new consultation may take place either on the same day, or on another day.    

ii. Our nurses will also provide you with medical advice where required (for example on dry eyes, floaters, cataracts).

4. Physical consultation      

i. At the consultation with REAC doctor (same visit), he / she may speak with you on your medical condition.

OR     

ii. Consultation with specialty clinic doctor (next visit)You may be scheduled for another appointment at a specialty clinic (eg. retina, glaucoma, cornea) depending on the results of your eye tests. You will receive the appointment details by SMS.

Follow-up Appointment

You will be notified of your follow-up appointment one week after your consultation. Please check your SMS or Health Buddy app (if you have enabled Push Notifications)

Our eye clinics operate on an appointment system.

• Strictly for non-emergency and non-urgent cases.
• For medical emergency, please proceed to Singapore General Hospital Emergency Department (SGH A&E) or call 995.

Registration

You may register by:

• Self-Service kiosk
• Mobile Registration – HealthBuddy. Patients can register through the HealthBuddy app using their mobile devices at least 90 minutes before their SNEC appointment time.

EySEE – Self Check Eye Test

EySEE is an application integrated into the Health Buddy for the testing of Visual Acuity (VA). EySEE simulates how a healthcare professional would check the VA of a SNEC patient. It's like the eye chart test you would get at the clinic but it’s now on your device.
