Profile

Dr Melissa Wong is a Senior Consultant with the Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology, as well as the Refractive Surgery Departments at the Singapore National Eye Centre. She obtained her medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 2005 and qualified as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2009. She obtained her Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) qualifications in 2010 and completed a further 3 years of advance surgical training at the Singapore National Eye Centre. 

In 2013, she obtained Fellowships from both The Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and Academy of Medicine (Singapore). In the specialists’ exit examination, she was overall best candidate and her excellent performance won her 6 out of 8 gold medals. She was best candidate in each of the categories: Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Cornea and External Eye diseases, Vitreoretinal Diseases; Paediatric Ophthalmology; Oculoplastic & Adnexal Diseases and Generic station. 

Dr Wong completed her subspecialty fellowship training in complex cataract surgery at SNEC in 2015. Her current interests are in cataract surgery including femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery, as well as refractive surgery. 

Dr Melissa Wong is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS since 2017 as well as Clinical Lecturer with Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore since 2015. She actively teaches medical and postgraduate students, as well as Ophthalmology trainees and paramedical staff, including optometrists and nurses. She actively participates in presentations at international and local conferences, and has published scientific papers in respected peer-reviewed medical journals and review articles.
