Clinical Associate Professor Boey Pui Yi is a Senior Consultant in the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). Her clinical practice includes cataract surgery, general and comprehensive ophthalmology, as well as a special interest in the field of Glaucoma. Clin A/Prof Boey practises in both the SNEC main campus and satellite clinics in the community, with a strong focus on quality eye care for patients with cataracts, glaucoma and general eye conditions. She has received multiple Singapore Health Quality Service Awards from 2017 to 2023, which is a nationwide award to honour healthcare professionals who have delivered quality care and service excellence to patients. She is also the 2024 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for the Eye and Vision Health Awards, which recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to eye care in Singapore.
Clin A/Prof Boey is currently Director of Outpatient Services in SNEC, with key administrative roles in overseeing plans and operations related to outpatient eye care services in SNEC. She is involved in the translation of SNEC strategic directions into operational plans, with oversight on execution, progress and outcomes. This involves high and complex levels of care coordination and integration, to enable smooth delivery of preventive, primary, secondary and tertiary eye care across the public healthcare cluster.
Her previous leadership appointments include head of satellite clinics from 2016 to 2022, in various locations in SNEC@Balestier (2016), SNEC@Alexandra (2017), and SNEC@Bedok (2018-2022). In these clinics, she oversaw the delivery of high quality and cost-effective eye care to the community.
In the areas of academia and education, Clin A/Prof Boey holds multiple roles in administrative and leadership positions. Her academic portfolio includes Clinical Associate Professor of SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme (EYE ACP), Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore (NUS), and Physician Faculty Member in the SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Program. Her educational portfolio includes the Residency Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee (2015-present), Fellowship Coordination Committee (2015-2017), and Cataract Surgical Training program (2015-present). Her dedicated roles in postgraduate and undergraduate ophthalmology education have earned her “Best Teacher” nominations from trainees and students under her tutelage. Clin A/Prof Boey is also involved in SNEC mentorship programmes, where she mentors clinical staff and junior colleagues at work.
Clin A/Prof Boey actively participates in presentations at international and local conferences, with numerous scientific publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. She is also involved in regular educational talks for the public, community health partners, and fellow doctors to raise awareness of glaucoma and other eye diseases.
