Education: SNEC-GO Webinar

The SNEC Global Ophthalmology (SNEC-GO) Programme was formally established in 2020, with a mission to address important challenges in eye care in the region, develop future leaders in Global Ophthalmology and build sustainable eye care systems within countries in our region through innovative solutions, advocacy, programs, and partnerships. Under the guidance of the SNEC-GO Secretariat, three main Sub-Committees were established to spearhead the three key objectives of SNEC-GO - Research, Education and Outreach & Advocacy.

Under the SNEC-GO Education committee, we started the SNEC-GO Rounds as part of our strategy to foster regional and international collaboration, targeting Residents and Fellows locally as well as those from our regional partner institutes through the discussion of challenging cases.

SNEC-GO Rounds webinars are held every quarter and cover topics themed on different subspecialties on a rotational basis, and aim to augment the practice of medicine amongst Ophthalmology Residents, Fellows and Faculty regionally.

The inaugural Glaucoma-themed SNEC-GO Round was successfully held in June 2021 in partnership with Siriraj Hospital (Thailand) and Cicendo Eye Hospital (Indonesia). Since then, we have conducted 4 SNEC-GO webinars in the subspecialties of Retina, Cornea and Neuro-Ophthalmology, and collaborated with Jakarta Eye Centre (Indonesia), Phramongkutklao University (Thailand), Mahidol University (Thailand), Sentro Oftalmologico Jose Rizal (Philippines) and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Taiwan). We are pleased to have reached out to over 889 trainees from 44 countries.

We aim to bring evidence based knowledge through case based discussion for Ophthalmologists onto a virtual platform even beyond this COVID-19 period. At the same time, we hope that the wide-ranging cases and ensuing lively panel discussion will allow for the sharing of evidence-based best practices between Residents, Fellows and Faculty.
