Problem solving is a key behaviour related to diabetes self-care management identified by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) and is linked to better blood sugar control. Yet, improving problem solving skills in patients with diabetes has not been used as a primary treatment approach to improve blood sugar control.
To address this gap, Professor Ecosse Lamoureux and his colleagues at the Singapore Eye Research Institute have designed a new behavioural programme (Problem Solving Treatment for Diabetes, PST-D) which uses personalised problem-solving treatment to deal with the challenges of managing diabetes. The team is currently testing the effectiveness of the PST-D programme in improving diabetes control and other clinical and psychological outcomes (e.g., HbA1c, quality of life, diabetes complications) in individuals with poor control of their diabetes in a nation-wide study: RESONATE (PRoblEm SOlviNg TreAtment for DiabeTEs).
We are currently recruiting individuals to join this study. By joining this study, participants will be compensated for their time and inconvenience.
Who can join RESONATE?
What does participation in RESONATE involve?
Clinical, Eye, and Questionnaire Assessments:If you join RESONATE, you will be offered a comprehensive range of clinical, eye, and questionnaire assessments at 4 times every 6 months over a period of 1.5 years — during enrolment in the study (first visit) and at 6 months, 12 months, and 18 months after enrolment. Each visit will take about 1.5 hours and will be held at the Singapore Eye Research Institute located at Level 7, Singapore National Eye Centre.
Study Group Allocation:After your first visit, you will be randomly assigned to either the intervention (PST-D) or control group. Participants in both groups will undergo 9 to 12 sessions with a trained research officer, each lasting about 30-45 minutes. You can choose to have the sessions over phone or face-to-face. Below is the flowchart describing the study timelines and procedures.
