Profile

Dr Wong obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from King’s College London in 2002, having also obtained a first in his intercalated BSc in Basic Medical Sciences with microbiology. He completed his junior doctor training in London teaching hospitals and pursued his specialist training in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at Oxford University Hospitals.

Whilst there, he was awarded the National Institute for Health Research Oxford Biomedical Research Council (NIHR BRC) fellowship and obtained his DPhil in the use of whole genomic sequencing technologies to elucidate Norovirus outbreaks, under the guidance of Professors Derrick Crook and Tim Peto. After completing his training, he worked as a consultant in Infectious diseases and microbiology in Buckinghamshire and was involved in several national clinical COVID-19 trials. Apart from attaining competence in both infectious diseases, clinical microbiology and infection control and prevention, Dr Wong’s interests range from exploring new technologies in translational clinical microbiology and infectious diseases, as well as the treatment of difficult infections, notably prosthetic joint infection.
