Profile

Dr Liu Yu-Chi obtained her medical degree (MD) from Taipei Medical University, Taiwan in 2005.  She gained her specialist accreditation in Ophthalmology in 2009 and completed her fellowship training in Cornea and External Eye Diseases in Taiwan as well as her Master of Clinical Investigation (MCI) from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2015.

Dr Liu was awarded Dean’s List for academic excellence in 2001-2004, the Best Intern Award in 2005, and Best Poster Award in 2007-2009 in Taiwan. Her clinical and research work were also recognized with national awards in Singapore, including the Ministry of Health (MOH) Healthcare Research Award (MOH, Singapore, 2013), the ExxonMobil-NUS Research Fellowship for Clinician Award (NUS, Singapore, 2013), and the Transition Award for clinician scientists (National Medical Research Council, Singapore, 2017); as well as international awards, such as the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) Travel Grant Award (2014), and the 1st Prize Presentation Award, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Congress (ESCRS, 2015).

Dr Liu’s clinical and research interests are in the areas of corneal diseases, corneal transplantation and refractive surgery. She is the author of the international textbooks on Cornea and Refractive surgery, and the editor and reviewer of ophthalmology journals. She has more than 45 papers spanning from clinical studies to translational research in peer-reviewed, international journals, including one publication in the prestigious journal “Lancet”. Dr Liu also has more than 50 invited talks or presentations in international meetings.
Dr Liu has been awarded multiple research grants from the National Medical Research Council, SingHealth, NUS and Duke-NUS Medical School. She also actively mentors medical students, residents and fellows and currently holds the appointment as Instructor at the Duke-NUS Medical School.
