Welcome Address
Welcome to the 13th edition of the Singapore Hyperbaric and Underwater Medicine Course (SHUMEC), jointly organized by the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
This one-week course combines didactic lectures, site visits to the SGH Hyperbaric and Diving Medicine Centre (HDMC) and Naval Hyperbaric Centre as well as an opportunity to experience a hyperbaric chamber dive for eligible participants.
The close collaboration between the RSN and SGH brings together RSN’s experience in Diving Medicine and SGH’s expertise in Hyperbaric Medicine to advance and broaden the clinical application in Underwater Medicine. Throughout the course, participants will establish strong foundation in Diving and Hyperbaric medicine and gain knowledge in management of diving emergencies. Participants will also be trained for assessment of Divers and Compressed Air Workers. Upon completion of SHUMEC, participants practicing in Singapore may apply to be registered as a Designated Workplace Doctor (Compressed Air Works) with Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
The SHUMEC curriculum has been designed and accredited according to the United Kingdom Diving Medicine Advisory Council (DMAC) Level 1 requirements and is supported by a strong teaching faculty from the RSN, SGH as well as local experts in the field.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Singapore!
