Dr Jayant V Iyer is a Consultant with the Singapore National Eye Centre. He completed his undergraduate medical training at the National University of Singapore in 2004 and was nominated as the best House Officer in two of his three rotations. He was awarded the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine in 2009 and the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2011, for which he was awarded the Ministry of Health Postgraduate Examinations scholarship. Upon completion of his residency, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK) and completed his Fellowship examinations at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS), with a Gold Medal in 2014.

Dr Jayant was the chief registrar during his rotation at Changi General Hospital in 2013 and is a member of the Editorial Board of the Singapore Medical Association since 2009. He is passionate about teaching and has been regularly involved in educating ophthalmology residents, optometrists, ophthalmic technicians and nurses. In 2012, he co-authored an ophthalmic textbook for General Practitioners titled Essential Ophthalmology, which was distributed to SingHealth polyclinics and interested general practitioners across Singapore.

Dr Jayant is an Adjunct Clinical Research Fellow at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. He won an international Travel Grant Award at ARVO 2013 and a Merit Award for his presentation at the International Ophthalmology Congress in 2010. He has published over 10 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. His current research interests are in the field of Glaucoma and Biodesign & Innovation.

Dr Jayant takes keen interest in international ophthalmic mission work and is a regular volunteer with free clinics for the needy within Singapore. He recently founded The Vision Mission, a not-for-profit organization that aims to alleviate treatable blindness in South and Southeast Asia. In 2014, The Vision Mission organized 1000 free cataract surgeries for the needy across Western Odisha, India. In addition, Dr Jayant has been involved with the SingHealth International Collaborations Office since 2014, to help establish an international humanitarian arm for the Singapore Health Services.

Dr Jayant’s current clinical practice includes general ophthalmology and adult cataract surgery, with a special interest in the field of Glaucoma. He will be pursuing a subspecialist fellowship with the Glaucoma department at SNEC in July 2015.
