SNEC At 30:

A Year to Remember, Give Thanks and Look Forward

Prof Wong Tien Yin, Medical Director, SNEC, was joined by host Gurmit Singh and the organising committee for a toast to the new year ahead

Taking to the virtual platform on 9 December for the ‘SNEC At 30’ year-end party were about 350 SNEC and SERI colleagues who gathered online. The COVID-19 pandemic may have changed the way we celebrate, but such get-togethers are no less significant.

The event was hosted live by local celebrity Gurmit Singh, with a special co-hosting appearance by SNEC’s very own Medical Director, Prof Wong Tien Yin. Themed ‘A Year to Remember, Give Thanks and Look Forward’, it was a meaningful time for us to reflect on how far we have come and how much we have achieved in 2020.

The party was hosted live from the studio, with pre-recorded segments such as Prof Aung Tin’s opening remarks

The live stream was jam-packed with heartwarming videos, fun interactive games, lucky draws and performances by our colleagues – Assoc Prof Audrey Chia, Abigail Ruth Hendriks, Sam Ngiam and Fiona Leong – showcasing their talents on vocals and keys. Included are several heartening snapshots from how we have joined hands in the nation’s fight against COVID-19, to advancements made in the field of ophthalmology.

There was even a surprise item by the SNEC-SERI Virtual Choir, whereby 58 staff from various departments came together and recorded themselves belting out the song "If We Hold on Together". This heartfelt rendition aptly represented our renewed hope for 2021.

We were deeply moved by the melodious energy, and like what the lyrics express, we look forward to better times ahead by continuing to work hand in hand as one united SNEC-SERI.

SNEC and SERI colleagues watched the year-end party live stream online, with one of the surprise highlights being the debut of the SNEC-SERI Virtual Choir
