Associate Professor Jodhbir Singh Mehta is highly accomplished in his field.  He is one of the leading specialists for corneal diseases and refractive surgery in the region, and holds a remarkable research track record in both funding and publications.

Over the years, he has driven numerous projects, many of which produced breakthroughs and patents with high translational potential. His research headship roles at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) and Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) allow him to make significant contributions as well.

Under his leadership, a highly competitive research team has been built, driving broad-based, innovative research focused on tackling corneal diseases. 

"Balancing a busy clinical service and a research team isn't easy.  Thankfully, I have the support of members in both teams.  Being able to achieve that is probably my proudest achievement," says Assoc Prof Jodhbir. "We have a lot of translational research that can soon be tested in clinical trials, so patients can reap the benefits in the near future."

A new form of corneal refractive surgery is one to look out for. Known as Refractive Lenticule Extraction (or ReLEx), it was pioneered by Prof Donald Tan and Assoc Prof Jodhbir, and may eventually replace the commonly adopted LASIK procedure.  "Despite advances in modern medicine, there is still so much we could do better, and so much we should improve on. And it is only through research that we can further innovate and improve healthcare outcomes for our patients."
