FRIDAY, 14 November 2008
Dear Colleagues,
President’s Challenge 2008 “Healthcare, I Care!” – SingHealth Exceeds Target
Tomorrow, 15 November is the grand finale of the President’s Challenge “Healthcare, I Care” effort for SingHealth as a group, and I am very pleased to announce that we have raised a total of $300,000.00 – exceeding our fund-raising target of $250,000.00.
This is an amazing and highly commendable achievement during these tough economic times and I am grateful to all our staff for contributing so generously towards this special cause.
Over and above the pledge card and cash donations, I am also very proud that our staff have volunteered their time, skills and resources in many creative ways to support the President’s Challenge. During the past months, our institutions have organised charity bazaars and lunches; our doctors have turned chefs and washed cars; our nurses and many other staff baked cookies, made handicrafts, and etc. Through your actions, you have set an excellent example showing care and compassion to the needy, and demonstrated the vast potential of what we can achieve together.
15 November will be a big day for us as Outram Campus plays host to some 400 beneficiaries, special guests from the healthcare family and our Guest-of-Honour President S R Nathan.
One Campus - in meeting the needs of the less fortunate
Nearly 1,000 staff will be actively involved in the various activities of the “Healthcare, I Care!” Day. In line with the theme for this year’s event, we will be meeting the needs of beneficiaries by doing what we do best – Healthcare.
Beneficiaries, young and old, from various voluntary welfare organisations will be receiving complimentary health screenings at SNEC, NHC, NDC and SHP. SGH will also be organising a special line-up of rehabilitation activities to improve balance and coordination of fine motor skills for the elderly and wheelchair-bound residents from Sathya Sai Social Services and St Hilda’s Community Service Centre.
A new fringe event this year is the SingHealth & Coca-Cola Friendship Walk – a collaboration with a corporate partner who share the same ideals of giving back to society. Some 200 staff of SingHealth and Coca-Cola will walk with beneficiaries on a 2km route across Outram Campus.
The programme will also include stage festivities, and the highlight of the event will be our cheque presentation to President Nathan.
“Healthcare, I Care!” Day rallies SingHealth institutions and staff as one family to pool our expertise to serve the community and make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
On that note, I would like to commend the President’s Challenge organising committee led by SNEC and Outram Campus representatives for their commitment and hard work in putting together a meaningful and interesting line-up of activities this year.
I know that I can count on all of you to give of your best and make tomorrow’s event another resounding success!
Thank you all.
Warmest regards
Prof Tan Ser Kiat
