CLINICAL SERVICES - CORNEAL & EXTERNAL EYE DISEASE

EDUCATION

The SNEC Corneal Service is at the forefront of clinical innovations, application and education in the field of cornea transplantation. Education and training opportunities are available to Cornea sub-specialists on advanced transplantation techniques.

Two popular courses conducted by the SNEC Cornea Service in collaboration with the Asia Cornea Society (ACS) have educated many Cornea sub-specialists on the advanced techniques of Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (ALK) and Descemet's-Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK).

Our Cornea specialists have conducted many international, regional and local teaching courses on advanced cornea transplantation techniques, refractive surgery, and pterygium surgery at various overseas ophthalmological meetings of international standing such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and they have contributed various book chapters on cornea, ocular surface stem cells and pterygium surgery.

The Cornea Service offers comprehensive Cornea Fellowships which educate eye specialists to be future cornea sub-specialists. The awarding of the Cornea Fellowship is competitive in nature and process, and is awarded based on the merits of the potential candidate. Thus far, the International Fellows from the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Mexico, China, Thailand, India and the Philippines have benefited from the training at the SNEC Cornea Service. They are:

JOINT COMMISSION INTERNATIONAL

Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation is internationally recognized as a premier credential for hospitals and other medical institutions. It is an international mark and endorsement for quality patient care and safety, and organisation management. The JCI accreditation program initiated in 1999 was designed to evaluate all the functions of acute care hospitals and medical centres. SNEC was accredited in December 2009.

EXCELLENCE FOR SINGAPORE AWARD

The Excellence for Singapore Award was set up by the Singapore Totalisator Board in 1996 to recognise and honour individuals, groups of individuals or organisations that bring credit to Singapore by being among the best in their areas of activity in Asia or in the world. SNEC has been bestowed the award since 2003.

ISO 9001:2008

ISO 9001 is the globally implemented standard for providing assurance about the ability to satisfy quality requirements and to enhance customer satisfaction in supplier-customer relationships. SNEC achieved the certification in 2005 and has also been accredited with ISO 9001:2008 (UKAS) since year 2008.

EXCELLENCE SERVICE AWARD

The Excellent Service Award (EXSA) is a national award managed by SPRING Singapore and nine industry lead associations. This award recognises the best of the best individuals who have delivered outstanding service in their respective industries. SNEC has been conferred the national award in 2004.

WORK-LIFE EXCELLENCE AWARD

The Work-Life Excellence Award is conferred to organizations for their excellence in Work-Life strategies. The award pays tribute to organizations that are committed to helping employees harmonise work and personal needs. SNEC achieved the award since 2006.

Servi-Cert^TM

Servi-Cert^TM is a service certification adapted from France and introduced into Singapore by the SGS International Certification Services Singapore Pte Ltd. To be accredited with ServiCertTM is an endorsement that SNEC has in place a service delivery system of international standard. This means SNEC's patients can look forward to service of the highest and most consistent quality. Patients can be assured that their needs and safety remain top of SNEC's priority as we continuously improve our facilities and premises. SNEC has been certified since April 2007.
