Recurrent Red, Itchy, Painful, Watery Eyes  Print this page

Children commonly present to our clinics with red, itchy, sensitive and watery eyes.

These can be caused by different eye conditions, such as:

  1. Virus or bacterial infections (conjunctivitis)
  2. Infected and inflamed eyelids (stye, chalazion, or blepheritis)
  3. Irritation due to in-turned eye lashes (epiblepheron)
  4. Sensitive allergic eyes (allergic conjunctivitis)
  5. Dry eyes
  6. Blocked tear ducts (nasolacrimal obstruction)
  7. Foreign material (eg dust) embedded in eye

In our clinics, it is important to look for all these conditions and treat them appropriately.
