First Major International Eye Research Meeting in Asia-Pacific
- Latest Research Findings and Development in Asian Eye Diseases
Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), and the national coordinating centre for ophthalmic and vision-related biomedical research in Singapore, is honoured to host the First SERI-ARVO Meeting on Vision and Ophthalmology to be held from 6-9 February 2003 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
More than 600 speakers and delegates from 37 countries will converge in Singapore next week to participate in this major international eye research meeting, which is organised with the strong support of the American Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). The ARVO meeting is the foremost eye research meeting in the world, and has traditionally been held in Florida, USA, for over 4 decades. This is the first time that ARVO is sponsoring a scientific meeting outside the USA.
The international research community can look forward to 4 days of comprehensive programme featuring Keynote Lectures, Symposia on Myopia and Physiological Optics, Glaucoma, Cornea & Refractive Surgery, Retina, Ocular Epidemiology & International Ophthalmology, Stem Cell Biology, Genetics and Ocular Inflammation. Local researchers will present their results of eye stem cell culture and transplants, and our clinical drug trials to retard myopia progression in Singapore schoolchildren will also be highlighted at the meeting. Recognising the importance of training the next generation of researchers to propel ophthalmic development, the meeting has also included a series of workshops on Understanding Basic Science Research, How To Design and Conduct Clinical Research and How to Write a Successful Grant and Scientific Paper.
Dr Tony Tan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence will be the Guest-of-Honour at the Opening Ceremony on Friday, 7 February 2003.
