A letter to The Straits Times’ forum pages from Ms Christina Cheang: “I was humbled and my eyes were opened this Christmas as I watched the dedicated professionalism of the doctors and nurses at the Singapore National Eye Centre. Despite their heavy workload, I saw how they accorded each patient, regardless of his economic background, the same comforting and personalised attentive care. It was my misfortune to fall victim to retinal detachment during Christmas, and my good fortune to come under their care. A taxi driver who took me there said I had nothing to worry when he was told that Professor Ang Chong Lye and his team were attending to me. The same doctor had saved his eye from retinal detachment, and thereby saved his livelihood.”

JOINT COMMISSION INTERNATIONAL

Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation is internationally recognized as a premier credential for hospitals and other medical institutions. It is an international mark and endorsement for quality patient care and safety, and organisation management. The JCI accreditation program initiated in 1999 was designed to evaluate all the functions of acute care hospitals and medical centres. SNEC was accredited in December 2009.

EXCELLENCE FOR SINGAPORE AWARD

The Excellence for Singapore Award was set up by the Singapore Totalisator Board in 1996 to recognise and honour individuals, groups of individuals or organisations that bring credit to Singapore by being among the best in their areas of activity in Asia or in the world. SNEC has been bestowed the award since 2003.

ISO 9001:2008

ISO 9001 is the globally implemented standard for providing assurance about the ability to satisfy quality requirements and to enhance customer satisfaction in supplier-customer relationships. SNEC achieved the certification in 2005 and has also been accredited with ISO 9001:2008 (UKAS) since year 2008.

EXCELLENCE SERVICE AWARD

The Excellent Service Award (EXSA) is a national award managed by SPRING Singapore and nine industry lead associations. This award recognises the best of the best individuals who have delivered outstanding service in their respective industries. SNEC has been conferred the national award in 2004.

WORK-LIFE EXCELLENCE AWARD

The Work-Life Excellence Award is conferred to organizations for their excellence in Work-Life strategies. The award pays tribute to organizations that are committed to helping employees harmonise work and personal needs. SNEC achieved the award since 2006.

Servi-Cert^TM is a service certification adapted from France and introduced into Singapore by the SGS International Certification Services Singapore Pte Ltd. To be accredited with ServiCertTM is an endorsement that SNEC has in place a service delivery system of international standard.
